Wheat is fascinating and extremely useful in all sorts of recipes including in our popular blueberry muffins.
Our wheat is grown as a plant in a field with tonnes of other wheat plants. When harvested the wheat goes through the process of being turned into flour.
First the wheat is cleaned, it passes through magnets and metal detectors to remove any metal. Machines separate any other stones or dust that may have ended up in the wheat. Then the wheat is conditioned. The wheat is then mixed with other types of wheat in a process called gristing, this helps make different types of flours. Then it passes through a machine that separates it into three parts: wheat germ, bran and endosperm. It is the sifted and separated into different places. The endospem particles pass through reduction rolls and turned into white flour. Grain is turned into wholemeal flour and brown flour has 85% of the original grain. Then they are used in baking products such as our blueberry muffins which are only $5.
